Shorts: Shemini Atzeret - One More Day

Shemini Atzeres - Hashem says one more day

Why do we have Shemini Atzeres? One more day. How come  by Pesach we do not have it? Sukkos means you are His guest.  Now, you are leaving, and the Ribbono Shel  Olam says: One more day! The same way  on Yom Kippur we say to the Ribbono Shel  Olam, one more minute by neilah. The  Ribbono Shel Olam says by Shemini Atzeres  One more minute! One more day!  It's all connecting to the Eibershter. It starts with Rosh  Hashanah, continues with Yom Kippur. Ne'ilah. Ne'ilah means  Ribbono Shel Olam, one more minute before You leave. So you  know what the Ribbono Shel Olam says? Okay, now, I'm giving  you an invitation to come to Me. That's Sukkos. I'm going back up.  Now's your chance to come to Me, visit Me, so we visit the  Eibershter in the sukkah. "V'samachta lifnei Hashem." Then the  Eibershter says just like by Ne'ilah you asked Me for one more day,  for one more minute I'm begging you back in return give Me one  more day; Shemini Atzeres.  Chazal tell us about Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah,  "nagilah v'nis'michah bach." Who are we happy with? with the  Eibershter. There is a connection by Shemini Atzeres, such a  connection that it's kasheh alai pridas'chem. The same way you said kasheh alai pridas'chem on Yom Kippur, I tell you at the end of  Sukkos: kasheh alai pridas'chem!  This, Rabbosai, gives us a picture of what the Yid should feel.  The closeness to the Eibershter. Try to experience it when you sit  in the sukkah, and you take a lulav and esrog. Try not to make it  menial. People sit in the sukkah, and they talk who knows what  and they fight about this and that. The bickering, the issues they  are small things. Let us sit in the sukkah and experience the love  and warmth of Avinu. B'tzila d'meihemenusa. Our father takes care  of us.
