And this is the intention of the words of our sages (Pirkei Avot, Chapter 6, Mishnah 4): "This is the way of the Torah: you shall eat bread with salt, drink water by measure, sleep on the ground, live a life of hardship, and toil in the Torah. If you do so, you are fortunate and it is good for you; you are fortunate in this world and it is good for you in the world to come." This means that you should study Torah under difficult conditions out of the love you have for the Torah simply by being Jewish. And if you do so, to toil in the Torah out of an arousal of love for it, "you are fortunate and it is good for you," then you will feel how the love of the Torah settles in your heart as an inseparable part, and then, "you are fortunate in this world and it is good for you in the world to come." For indeed, the Torah is the portion of every Jew from the day of their birth, and through their toil, they merit to reveal their unique portion.
