Another example illustrating the unity of Israel: On one of the days of Chol Hamoed, I took my family to Capitol Hill in the capital city of Washington. Standing there on the steps, I thought of only one thing, how many prayers, supplications, and tears were shed on these steps by righteous and pure people who came to advocate for the salvation of our brethren, the House of Israel, who were in distress and captivity in Europe during the terrible days of the Holocaust. Among them were the cries and tears of my grandfather, the genius Rabbi Shmuel David, of blessed memory.

When he arrived in America, he immediately received a respectable position as the head of the yeshiva 'Ahavas Torah' in Brinks, with a nice salary. However, when the dark days of the Holocaust came, he resigned from his position and dedicated all his being and time to the Rescue Committee, which issued visas to save Jews. As he explained in a letter he sent to Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, of blessed memory, who was in Shanghai with the Mir Yeshiva, he could not end a day's work and return home to sleep peacefully with confidence in his fate when the majority of the people of Israel were subject to persecution and plunder. This is the embodiment of 'friends elevate you,' exemplary unity with all of Israel.
