However, in the Maariv (evening prayer), we also mention the miracles of Hashem at the Sea of Reeds, and there the Israelites are referred to with the affectionate term 'children' – 'and His children saw His might,' 'Your reign saw Your children.' We need to understand why in Shacharit they are referred to with the special term 'beloved,' whereas in Maariv and other places, they are commonly referred to as 'children.' Especially since the term 'children' itself indicates a relationship of love.
