According to our way, we can explain the saying of the Sages (Sotah 36b): "Rabbi Meir used to say, when the Israelites stood by the sea, the tribes were contending with each other, one saying, 'I will go down into the sea first,' and the other saying, 'I will go down into the sea first.' The tribe of Benjamin jumped and went down into the sea first, as it is said (Psalms 68:28), 'There is Benjamin, the youngest, ruling them,' do not read 'ruling' (rodem) but 'descends into the sea' (rad yam). And the princes of Judah were stoning them, as it is said (ibid.), 'The princes of Judah their council (ragmatam).'" This requires explanation, what was the point of arguing about who should be the first to jump into the sea.
