It is written in the Mechilta (Beshalach, Chapter 6): "And so you find that the Israelites were redeemed from Egypt only because of their faith, as it says (Exodus 4:31), 'And the people believed.' And so you find that the exiles will be gathered in only because of faith, as it says (Song of Songs 4:8), 'Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon; look from the top of Amana,' and it is written (Hosea 2:22), 'And I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you to me in faithfulness.'"
