The revered Mashgiach, Rabbi Yeruchem, of blessed memory, explained that the entire matter of the Jewish people's longing for banners is because it elevates the prestige of Israel. These are his words (Daas Chochmah U'Mussar, Part 1, Essay 59): "Beloved are Israel who are called children of the Omnipresent; an extra love is revealed to them in that they are called children of the Omnipresent" (Avot, Chapter 3, Mishnah 14) – 'children of the Omnipresent' is a greater love, a stronger kiss, 'revealed to them' from the beginning to the end, everything is levels and aspects in love, in connection and embrace with the blessed Creator.

Accordingly, we can already understand what the great commotion was about concerning the banners. Since we have explained that the matter of the banners is "and He has raised the horn of His people" (Psalms 148:14), the elevation of the entirety of Israel to be recognized as akin to ministering angels, to be above all the nations of the earth, it is already understood the great significance of this matter that the entirety of Israel merited through the counting.
