The Rambam writes in his Mishneh Torah (Chapter 7 of Laws of Chametz and Matzah, Halacha 4): "One must begin with words of disparagement and conclude with words of praise, etc., and so he begins and informs that we were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and all the evil that was done to us, and concludes with the miracles and wonders that were done for us, our freedom, etc., and anyone who adds and elaborates in expounding on this portion is praiseworthy." It is also explicitly stated in the language of the Rambam in his Sefer HaMitzvot: "It is a positive commandment that we were commanded to relate the story of the exodus from Egypt on the night of the fifteenth of Nissan at the beginning of the night with a clear and concise language of recounting, and anyone who adds in the narrative and elaborates on the matter, etc., will be even better, as they said, 'And anyone who elaborates on the telling of the exodus from Egypt is praiseworthy.'"

It is found that there is a significance in adding and elaborating in explanations on what is written in the text. The intention is to elaborate in quantity and to add to the matters in quality, in the manner that the Gra (Vilna Gaon) explained in the Haggadah of Pesach on what is said there: "And whoever increases in recounting" – meaning, to add from one's wisdom and understanding. His explanation is to understand the matter deeply, which is called storytelling in quality.
